Hon Hai Precision Industry, you know, better known as Foxconn, along with Sharp has signed a memo of understanding, basically a kind of agreement, to work together on new business development. It’s not only about being partner on paper. There’s also the plan for a shared framework that ties research, development, and the commercialization efforts between the two, more or less in a connected way.
The idea sounds simple enough. Foxconn contributes its global manufacturing scale, the usual supply chain strength, and its ‘3+3+’ direction around AI, semiconductors, and next generation communications, plus some growth themes too, like EVs, robotics, and digital health. Meanwhile Sharp brings brand power, customer reach, and long running market channels, especially across Japan and in other markets.
Overall, the cooperation covers a range of areas including AI infrastructure, energy and ESG uses, robotics and smart automation, next generation communications, and smart city solutions, too. A key early focus is AI infrastructure, including AI servers, where Sharp has already shown intent to enter. Both companies plan to explore joint R&D platforms, do proof of concept projects, and then later move into the market rollout of products and services.

Beyond the development part, they’re also working on some business execution layer that sort of links manufacturing supply chains, and go to market systems together, so things can actually flow. フォックスコン’s production network combined with シャープ’s brand presence is expected to accelerate commercialization, particularly in high demand computing and AI driven applications.
The approach is phased and market driven. Instead of rushing, both sides will test opportunities, validate them, and expand gradually based on industry demand and technology readiness.
