SkyDrive has signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan Biz Aviation as the Japanese eVTOL developer prepares for commercial operations in its home market.
Japan Biz Aviation brings experience from operating charter services using aircraft such as the HondaJet and Bell helicopters, knowledge SkyDrive sees as increasingly important as it moves closer to deployment.
While SkyDrive has secured 427 aircraft orders globally, many of its overseas customers already operate aircraft and hold the air operator certificates needed for commercial services. Japan presents a different challenge. A bunch of domestic buyers, like rail operators and other companies, currently do not really have the certifications or operational know-how required to run aircraft services properly.

This agreement will concentrate on setting up who owns what and how the operating models work for SkyDrive aircraft, plus it will make the responsibilities clearer for the operators, the buyers, and SkyDrive itself. Both companies will also work on a roadmap covering service launch timelines and future operations.
For Japan’s emerging air mobility market, the bigger challenge may not be building the aircraft. It may be building the ecosystem needed to fly them.
