Internet Initiative Japan Inc. and NTT DOCOMO BESTIC, INC.have completed a demonstration of interoperability between different data spaces to ensure the reliability of data distribution by July 2026.
This demonstration verified interoperability between IIJ’s data distribution platform , which is being developed under the research theme “Data Protection and Distribution Automation Technology” of the “Development of Hybrid Cloud Utilization Platform Technology” project commissioned by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and NTT DOCOMO BESTIC’s data space verification environment service, which is based on the open-source software (OSS) “Tractus-X” that is popular in Europe. It was confirmed that highly reliable data distribution is possible even between data spaces with different architectures
As the use of digital data spreads throughout society, the importance of data collaboration that transcends the boundaries of companies and organizations is increasing. There is a growing movement to create new value and solve social problems by combining data from different industries and fields, and “data spaces,” which allow each organization to securely share data while maintaining data sovereignty, are attracting attention as a foundational technology to develop such data collaboration mechanisms into social infrastructure. On the other hand, there are diverse data spaces with different design philosophies and intended scopes of use, and ensuring “interoperability” between different data spaces is essential to promoting data utilization throughout society.

This demonstration will verify the interoperability between data spaces being researched and developed in Japan and data spaces being introduced in Europe, where social implementation is ahead, and in the future it is expected to be applied to data collaboration across a wider range of industries and fields, such as in international supply chain transactions.
