FUJIFILM Business Innovation is working harder with Microsoft. The goal is to make DocuWorks and Microsoft 365 work better. This will help organisations find and use their documents easily in the age of generative AI.
DocuWorks has existed since 1998. DocuWorks gives a place for scanned paper and digital files. Users can look at, sort, edit and share documents. The screen feels like real paper. Than ten million licenses have been sold in Japan and other nations. Companies, in manufacturing, distribution and financial services use DocuWorks.
The expanded collaboration is intended to make documents stored in DocuWorks easier to access within the Microsoft 365 environment. The companies are also working to broaden the use of these documents as information assets that can be utilized with generative AI.
As the first initiative under the strengthened collaboration, FUJIFILM Business Innovation is developing functions that will allow users to preview DocuWorks files in Microsoft OneDrive, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams. The company is also developing functionality that will allow DocuWorks files to be uploaded to Microsoft Copilot for use in AI-assisted activities. The companies are currently developing and testing these capabilities, with a target of beginning service availability by the end of March 2027. Specific availability dates and conditions will be announced later.
The integration lets users access DocuWorks documents right, from the Microsoft 365 tools they already use every day. This makes it easier to work with files without switching between apps. It also opens a way to bring documents stored in DocuWorks into the mix. These documents, which might have been sitting unused for years can now be used with Microsoft Copilot. That means teams can start using intelligence to help with tasks like finding key information or summarizing content. It’s a way to make held organizational knowledge more useful and available in everyday workflows.

FUJIFILM Business Innovation is also considering expanding DocuWorks beyond document handling by connecting it with various types of information within Microsoft 365. Future development areas under consideration include support for document creation and updating, notifications, and other activities related to everyday business processes. The company also plans to explore ways of extracting organizational knowledge and expertise contained in accumulated documents and applying it to business operations.
The companies said the collaboration reflects the growing importance of making better use of large volumes of corporate document assets as part of digital transformation. By connecting document management, information sharing, and AI utilization, FUJIFILM Business Innovation and Microsoft are working to expand how organizations can use information already accumulated through their daily operations.
FUJIFILM Business Innovation President and CEO Naoki Hama said the strengthened collaboration represents an important milestone for DocuWorks, as the integration with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Copilot creates additional possibilities for using document assets accumulated by customers over many years. Microsoft Executive Vice President Charles Lamanna also said that the ability to use DocuWorks documents within Microsoft 365 could help organizations derive greater value from their existing information assets and create opportunities for further Copilot integration.
