As network-connected products become increasingly widespread across various fields, including industrial equipment, consumer electronics, infrastructure, and IoT, cybersecurity measures throughout the entire product lifecycle are becoming increasingly important.
From December 2027 onward, “products with digital elements,” including hardware and software that connect directly or indirectly to other devices or networks, will no longer be able to be sold in the EU market with CE marking unless they meet the basic cybersecurity requirements set forth by the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). This regulation makes cybersecurity compliance a crucial market entry requirement, alongside existing product requirements.

This newly released eBook provides a comprehensive overview of security measures for network-connected products, covering the entire lifecycle from design to end-of-life. Drawing on insights from Tim Scherer, Senior Cyber Resilience Engineer at Microchip, it explains the scope of CRA (Critical Resilience Assessment), deadlines, and relevant standards. Furthermore, it addresses security measures throughout the entire product lifecycle, including security architecture design, prototype verification, initial device setup during mass production, management of device IDs and authentication information required during product operation, software updates, and secure handling at the end of product life.
