Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has announced that its ME Innovation Fund has invested in Lucend, a startup based in the United States that provides an AI platform for optimizing data center operations. This investment becomes the fourteenth investment made by the ME Innovation Fund so far.
As digitalization continues to accelerate around the world, driven in part by the rapid spread of generative AI, capital investment in data centers is increasing at a fast pace. Alongside this growth, data center operators are facing stronger demands to improve how efficiently their facilities are run. This includes managing energy and water usage more carefully, reducing environmental impact, keeping operations stable, and maintaining competitiveness in an increasingly crowded market.
Lucend provides an AI platform called Transparent AI that allows operators to see what is happening across an entire data center. The platform analyzes a wide range of operational indicators, including energy consumption, water usage, CO2 emissions, and equipment utilization. These insights are generated from more than 300 billion data points collected from sensors that are already installed in existing facilities. Because the system connects directly to current infrastructure, operators can introduce it without adding new hardware or disrupting daily operations.

The platform also identifies signs of equipment problems, such as unusual chiller temperatures or declining efficiency in UPS systems. Rather than making automatic changes, it follows a human in the loop approach. It presents recommended corrective actions in a clear way, allowing operators to review the information and decide how to respond. Lucend’s platform has already been deployed at major data centers in cities such as Melbourne, Singapore, Paris, London, Amsterdam, and Chicago, where it has been well received for its ease of deployment and practical support for day to day operations.
