Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and data intelligence hub of the Alibaba Group, announced the opening of its fifth data center in Japan. The new data center in Tokyo aims to meet the growing demand from domestic customers in key sectors such as retail, gaming, entertainment, and manufacturing, and to provide advanced cloud and AI solutions to seize business opportunities in the era of agentic AI.
Just months after opening its fourth data center in Japan in March 2026, the new data center will provide comprehensive enterprise-grade cloud computing services. These include elastic computing, storage, container services, networking, security, databases, and advanced developer tools. Built on stringent data privacy and security standards, Alibaba Cloud’s Japan region comprises five data centers, helping Japanese businesses improve high availability, operational resilience, and business continuity.
This expansion brings Alibaba Cloud’s global network to 105 availability zones across 32 regions, further strengthening our commitment to providing a secure, scalable, and sustainable foundation to support our customers’ digital transformation worldwide.

Furthermore, to meet the growing demand for AI infrastructure, Alibaba Cloud has launched a suite of AI-native data analytics and database services in Japan. Key services include “DataWorks Data Agent,” an intelligent assistant that streamlines traditional data warehouse development, shortening development cycles from days to minutes. It also offers AI-native database services such as “Data Agent for Analytics” to support analytical insights, “Meta,” a tool for data asset and knowledge management, “DAS” to support database operation and maintenance, and “DataBridge” to support data ingestion. These solutions support a variety of use cases, including data analytics, enterprise data asset management, intelligent database operation and management in multi-cloud and multi-engine environments, and multimodal data preprocessing.
In response to the growing use of AI agents for enterprises, Alibaba Cloud has launched its one-stop enterprise-grade AI development platform, “Model Studio,” in the Japan region. In particular, the Model Studio CLI (command line interface) for AI agents supports a wide range of AI functions, including text chat, image and video generation and editing, and speech synthesis and recognition. Japanese companies and developers can now access a secure, enterprise-grade API environment within Japan and use Alibaba’s latest Qwen model, Qwen3.7-Plus, as well as other third-party LLMs. Furthermore, in addition to Alibaba’s video generation model, HappyHorse, Alibaba’s multimodal model, Qwen3.5-Omni, will soon be available in Model Studio Japan.
To unleash corporate creativity and improve productivity, Alibaba Cloud will be holding a series of workshops, hackathons, and events in Japan over the next few months, focusing on building operational AI agents, for developers and startups.
