Teltonika Telematics, a global leader in industrial IoT and fleet management/telematics, is launching a full-scale rollout of its telematics product suite for the Japanese market, supporting the management of electric fleets, including electric vehicles (EVs). The products address the evolving needs of Japanese logistics, delivery, and mobility operators with features such as remote battery status monitoring, vehicle data acquisition via CAN/OBD, and uninterrupted tracking even in environments with poor GPS signal reception.
Traditional fleet management has been designed primarily around metrics based on internal combustion engine vehicles, such as fuel and engine oil. In contrast, EV operation management requires continuous monitoring of digital data such as battery state (state of health), electrical system status, and charging behavior. As vehicle electrification progresses, understanding battery degradation and charging status has become a new management item that affects vehicle utilization rates.
In Japan, the electrification of commercial vehicles is positioned as a policy priority (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s “Green Growth Strategy”), and the introduction of electric vehicles is progressing in stages in the logistics, delivery, and mobility sectors.
