Nuclea Energy Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Moltex Energy’s advanced nuclear technology portfolio after a competitive bidding process drew significant interest in the company and its technologies.
The portfolio brings together more than a decade of development work, including the Waste to Stable Salt, or WATSS, used nuclear fuel recycling process, the Stable Salt Reactor Wasteburner, and FLEX reactor technologies. It also includes 80 granted patents across nine patent families and nine pending patents related to WATSS. The technologies have taken in more than C$96 million in private and public sector funding from Canada and the United States, which is pretty solid
This deal shows up while global attention on nuclear power is really accelerating, mostly because people want dependable low-carbon electricity, stronger energy security and also the push to finish, or close, the nuclear fuel cycle. WATSS is set up to recover both energy and material value from used nuclear fuel, while cutting down on the long term waste inventories, over time.

Development has involved governments, utilities, laboratories and engineering partners across Canada, the U.S. and other markets. WATSS has also undergone testing using real used CANDU fuel at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories.
Nuclea Energy Canada Inc. will acquire the relevant assets and subsidiaries. Completion remains subject to closing conditions, including approval under the UK National Security and Investment Act 2021. Following completion, Nuclea plans to retain Moltex Energy Canada to support research, engineering and regulatory development.
