KDDI Corporation , KDDI Smart Drone Corporation , and Wing Aviation LLC , a subsidiary of Alphabet, have concluded a strategic partnership on October 27, 2026, to fully implement drone delivery services in Japan.
Against the backdrop of challenges in last-mile delivery, such as the increasing number of elderly people who have difficulty shopping, the lack of time for dual-income families raising children, and the shortage of drivers, the importance of responding to diversifying delivery needs is growing. In this context, expectations are rising for drone delivery as a new delivery method that can realize sustainable local delivery.
This partnership will combine Wing’s globally proven autonomous drones, flight systems, and automated ground infrastructure with KDDI and KSD’s expertise in communication infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and social implementation. The three companies will work together to build the infrastructure for drone delivery that enables the rapid, safe, and sustainable delivery of daily necessities, food products, over-the-counter medicines, and small-lot retail goods.

First, we aim to begin delivering food products, including Lawson products, and daily necessities to some areas by 2027.
After that, we will work with local governments and regional partners to expand the range of products we deliver and the service area we operate in.
Through this partnership, the three companies will promote the social implementation of drone delivery. By addressing social issues such as improving local convenience and securing delivery methods during disasters, they will contribute to the realization of sustainable local communities.
