Universal Music Group (UMG) and ElevenLabs have entered into a multi-year licensing and strategic partnership aimed at developing new AI-powered music experiences for fans, artists, and songwriters.
The agreement combines music licensing with joint product development and marks ElevenLabs’ first deal with a major music label.
At the center of the partnership is a shared approach to responsible AI development. Both companies say they want to explore new uses of AI in music while protecting human creativity and ensuring artists and songwriters can participate in the value generated by the technology.
A new AI music platform for fans
As the first initiative under the agreement, ElevenLabs and UMG are developing an AI music platform built around licensed music and participation from artists.
The service is expected to give fans new ways to interact with music, including creating remixes and mashups, producing new interpretations of songs, and experimenting with personalized vocal experiences.
The platform is still in development, with the companies planning additional products and experiences as the partnership expands.
Rather than treating AI simply as a tool for generating new music, the initiative appears designed to connect AI creation with existing artists, songs, and fan communities through licensed content.
Separate from ElevenLabs’ existing music products
The new platform will operate independently from ElevenLabs’ existing music offerings.
Its Music API provides access to studio-quality music generation models for companies and developers across areas such as music technology, media and entertainment, and social platforms.
ElevenMusic, meanwhile, is an application focused on creating and editing original music. Users can adjust elements including vocals, instrumentation, musical style, and arrangement.
The UMG partnership adds another layer to that portfolio by introducing licensed music and direct participation from artists and songwriters.

The partnership reflects the growing effort across the music industry to find practical ways of using generative AI without separating the technology from the people who create and own the underlying music.
For ElevenLabs, the agreement also represents a significant step into the traditional music industry through its first major-label partnership. For UMG, it provides another route to explore AI-driven fan experiences while establishing licensing and artist participation as part of the development process.
The companies expect to continue working together on additional AI audio products and music experiences beyond the initial platform.
