Cloudera and VAST Data have announced a strategic partnership to deliver AI data platforms designed for enterprises running workloads across on premises environments and public clouds.
The partnership combines Cloudera’s lakehouse and data services capabilities with VAST Data’s AI operating system and infrastructure layer, using NVIDIA’s AI data platform architecture as the foundation. The goal is straightforward. Keep data moving fast enough to keep expensive GPU clusters busy instead of leaving them waiting for access to data.
As more companies move from AI pilots to production systems, traditional data architectures are becoming a bottleneck. Data preparation, model training, inference, and analytics often sit in disconnected environments, creating inefficiencies and lower hardware utilization.

The joint platform aims to solve that by creating a single operating environment that handles data ingestion, governance, analytics, and AI workloads across hybrid environments while supporting structured, unstructured, and multimodal data at scale.
The announcement also highlights a broader trend taking shape across enterprise AI. The conversation is shifting from models to infrastructure. Companies are now racing to build what the industry increasingly calls AI factories, production environments where data pipelines, storage, compute, and governance operate as a single system rather than separate layers stitched together later.
For regulated industries and large enterprises, private AI infrastructure is rapidly moving from an option to a requirement rather than a preference.
