Hitachi and Intel just announced some kind of strategic collaboration, to push the use of AI and advanced computing in all sorts of sectors like manufacturing, energy, and mobility. The idea is that they’ll mesh Hitachi’s know-how in operational technology and industrial systems with Intel’s computing power and semiconductor skills, so they can craft solutions that help with efficiency, and also in a broader sense strengthen critical infrastructure.
The two companies will work across five key areas: foundry tools, quantum computing, energy optimization, custom silicon and edge AI, and factory automation. One major focus is semiconductor manufacturing, where Hitachi’s metrology and inspection technologies, combined with physical AI, will be used to improve predictive maintenance, product quality, and production yields.

The collaboration also has joint efforts around quantum computing and the way energy is managed, and Hitachi’s HMAX Energy platform is planned to back up Intel’s fabrication facilities, somehow. Past that, they also want to look into custom chips, edge AI deployments, and more intelligent factory operations, basically mirroring this bigger industry movement to link AI straight into physical industrial settings.
