Plaid Inc. has developed an AI assistant for face-to-face business support using Google Chrome’s built-in AI capabilities, and the project was showcased at Google I/O 2026 as an advanced use case for embedded AI technology.
The system was designed to solve a growing issue in customer-facing industries. Companies want AI-powered support during conversations with customers, but many interactions involve highly sensitive personal information that businesses do not want processed through external cloud systems.
Plaid’s solution keeps conversation analysis and summarization directly on the device using Chrome’s Prompt API and Summarizer API. Since conversation data is not sent to external servers, the approach supports privacy-focused AI deployment while aligning with standards such as GDPR.

The assistant provides real-time guidance to staff by suggesting follow-up questions during customer interactions. It also follows a human-in-the-loop structure where AI handles information organization while final decisions remain with employees.
The platform can also talk with Gemini and Google Search, using anonymized data, to help with more advanced recommendations. Plaid is planning to push the solution further into areas like travel, finance, retail, auto, and HR, and it is also looking at multilingual support for incoming tourism plus a wider customer experience integration, kind of broader than before.
