IBM has announced the availability of IBM Bob , an AI-first development partner designed for enterprise development teams, built around the premise of leveraging AI. IBM Bob does more than just speed up developers’ coding; it functions across the entire software development lifecycle, from planning, design, coding, testing, deployment, and modernization, and provides the governance and security management required by enterprises.
AI is fundamentally changing the way software is developed. However, for many enterprises, the complexity accumulated over many years, legacy systems, hybrid environments, compliance requirements, and the tangible costs of failure are barriers to speeding things up. High-speed AI without proper controls is not progress; it simply accelerates risk.
IBM Bob was designed to bridge this gap. Built on a structured framework that includes persona-specific modes, consistently applied standards, reusable playbooks, tool calls, and human-in-the-loop, IBM Bob can be integrated into every role of the development process, allowing teams to develop quickly while maintaining control.

IBM Bob was introduced internally at IBM in June 2025 for 100 developers. Currently, it is used by over 80,000 IBM employees worldwide. Participants reported an average 45% increase in productivity in modernization, security, and new development. Even greater improvements were observed for specific tasks.
