Sherpa & Company, Inc. will begin offering “SmartESG Carbon”, an AI-native GHG emissions calculation system that streamlines data processing necessary for Scope 1, 2, and 3 calculations and realizes highly reliable data management that can withstand audits and assurances, starting March 25, 2026.
Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that we have entered into a business partnership with Believe Technology Co., Ltd., a company with a strong focus on supporting decarbonization, in providing this service.
Sherpa, which develops “SmartESG,” a service that supports sustainability information disclosure primarily for listed companies in Japan, has focused on the current situation where the reliability of reported figures is a major bottleneck in the practical aspects of disclosure. Conventional GHG emission calculations are complex and involve numerous processes, leading to excessive workload and reliance on individual expertise. In particular, the processing logic before calculation is a black box, resulting in a great deal of effort being required to verify and explain the supporting data when responding to external audits and third-party assurances.

In reality, many companies, even after implementing calculation tools, still rely on manual processes using Excel or similar tools for “data cleansing,” such as sorting data extracted from internal systems, converting units, and assigning unit costs. This creates a structural challenge that requires several months for the entire project. Looking ahead, with the application of disclosure standards by the Sustainability Standards Board of Japan (SSBJ), there is an urgent need to develop internal controls that offer the same speed, evidence management, and reproducibility as financial reporting.
Sherpa is entering this field to solve the challenge of “ensuring reliability” beyond “mere calculation,” and to raise the calculation process to the same “financial accounting quality” as financial accounting.
