US-based Trimble has acquired Terasat Japan, a GNSS correction information provider, strengthening its real-time, centimeter-level positioning services in Japan. The acquisition gives Trimble ownership and operation of Terasat Japan’s VRS network, which has used Trimble technology for years.
The move expands access to high-precision positioning across surveying and geospatial work, construction, automotive, and agriculture. Terasat Japan uses data from more than 1,300 electronic reference points operated nationwide by Japan’s Geospatial Information Authority.
Trimble’s VRS service works with network-based RTK. It also supports more than one GNSS satellite system. With the service, users can get accuracy near 2 cm in the horizontal direction and about 3 cm in height. This is available without setting up or running their own reference stations.

The agreement points to a bigger need for steady real-time positioning. Many industries are leaning on GNSS for work in the field, for automation tasks, and for apps that depend on location. The financial details were not shared.
