Terra Drone Inc. is pleased to announce the release of “Terra STUDIO,” point cloud analysis and editing software that enables surveying companies, construction consultants, and construction companies nationwide to perform in-house analysis of 3D point cloud data acquired with Terra LiDAR and Terra SLAM, as well as create ground data.
TerraStudio is software that allows you to perform a series of point cloud analysis and editing processes after measurement in a single environment. With Terra LiDAR 4, it supports GNSS/IMU analysis and flight path adjustment, and with the Terra SLAM series, it supports SLAM integrated analysis. It also handles subsequent original data creation, filtering and classification, and ground data creation.
By introducing Terra Studio, customers can now create and edit original data and ground data in-house, a process that Terra Drone previously provided as a cloud-based analysis service.
Furthermore, the addition of this product to our lineup will enable us to offer combination solutions with Terra LiDAR and Terra SLAM to new customers, as well as provide analysis software to existing users.
Our civil engineering business accounts for our largest share of sales. To further grow our domestic surveying business, we are expanding our application areas from measuring instruments to analysis and editing, and creating an environment where we can flexibly select analysis methods according to the project and situation, thereby promoting customer expansion and improved value proposition.
In UAV laser surveying and SLAM measurements, acquiring high-density 3D point clouds is crucial, but subsequent analysis and quality control are equally important. Engineers must verify the processing results according to the measurement conditions and site circumstances, checking for discrepancies in overlapping flight paths and ensuring that vegetation and structures are not incorrectly classified as ground surfaces, and making any necessary adjustments.
On the other hand, point cloud analysis sometimes requires the use of different software for each stage of the process, necessitating the management of multiple data sets, work processes, and the expiration dates of each software program while proceeding with analysis and editing. Furthermore, overseas-made point cloud analysis software is widely used in Japan, and when internalizing analysis, in addition to the software’s functionality, an operational environment that provides technical information in Japanese and support based on domestic surveying practices is also crucial.

Terra Drone has been supporting its customers from measurement to analysis by combining measurement equipment, primarily the Terra LiDAR series which is a flagship product for domestic civil engineering projects, with cloud analysis services. Currently, Terra LiDAR has one of the top market shares in Japan as a UAV laser fully compliant with public regulations.
On the other hand, we also received requests from our customers such as “We want to check and adjust the analysis results ourselves,” “We want to internalize the analysis process to match the increasing number of projects,” “We want to perform the analysis at our own pace to meet deadlines,” and “We want to accumulate analysis technology within our company.”
TerraStudio is software created to meet these customer needs. With the addition of TerraStudio to our product lineup, we can now provide an environment where users can handle everything from measurement to analysis, verification, and adjustment themselves. TerraDrone will support operations tailored to each company’s business structure, while also aiming to help users accumulate analytical skills and further promote 3D measurement and analysis technology in Japan.
