Pie Systems Japan Co., Ltd., the Japanese subsidiary of Pie Systems Inc., is pleased to announce that its tax-free procedure service for visitors to Japan, “PIE VAT,” has begun integration with “RECORE,” a cloud-based core system for the retail and reuse industry provided by RECORE Co., Ltd..
Stores using “RECORE” can begin seamlessly integrating in-store accounting with tax-free/refund procedures ahead of the new tax-free system, the “refund method,” which will begin on November 1, 2026 (Sunday). Furthermore, it streamlines tax-free sales operations by reducing the workload of accounting staff and preventing errors. Stores using “RECORE” can use this service at no additional cost.
With the increase in visitors to Japan and the expansion of consumer spending, tax-free shopping has become an essential infrastructure for retailers. However, the “double effort” of traditional accounting (entering amounts and items into the register) and tax-free procedures (reading passport information and re-entering purchase information into the tax-free system) has been a significant burden on stores. This partnership will greatly reduce this burden on stores.

Furthermore, a revision to the tax exemption system (transition to a refund system) is scheduled for November 2026, requiring stores to ensure reliable system compatibility and operational efficiency. Our company is the first in Japan to offer an integrated tax exemption and refund service compatible with the “refund system,” and we are a leading player in tax exemption DX with the longest operational track record in Japan at 5 years. Because we have already completed the necessary adjustments for the new tax exemption system approaching in November, stores that have adopted “RECORE” can automatically adapt to the “refund system” operation.
Based on our extensive operational experience and expertise, we will provide comprehensive support to ensure that all stores using “RECORE” can confidently engage in duty-free sales.
