Mitsubishi Electric and Sony Semiconductor Solutions have signed an agreement, to set up Advanced Vision Solutions Co., Ltd. kind of joint venture which will focus on developing AI vision sensor solutions for manufacturing. The plan is that the new company starts operating in October 2026, once it gets the necessary regulatory approvals.
This partnership kind of brings together Sony’s image sensor and edge AI technology, with Mitsubishi Electric’s know how in factory automation control systems. And together they are aiming to build vision sensors that can analyze visual data right on the image sensor itself, rather than sending everything off to outside systems for processing.
The idea here is to help manufacturers get a clearer handle on what is really going on across the production lines. It should be able to capture information tied to things like equipment conditions, product quality, maintenance work, and even changes occurring inside manufacturing facilities, which have typically been hard to monitor in real time.

That information can then be linked to production control systems, allowing equipment to respond based on actual operating conditions with less manual involvement. The companies believe this approach can improve decision-making on the factory floor while supporting more efficient equipment control.
