Tokyo Boeki Techno System Co., Ltd., a member of the Tokyo Boeki Group, has released a new function called “Digital Assembly” for its digital engineering solution for the manufacturing industry, “REGALIS Fusion.” This function enables deformation prediction in the spot welding process in a virtual space, supporting the reduction of the number of prototypes and production preparation time, cost reduction, and process stabilization.
The importance of spot welding in protecting vehicle body quality and the challenges faced on site
In mass production of automobiles, streamlining the production process while maintaining consistent vehicle body quality is a crucial challenge that determines a company’s competitiveness. Among these processes, spot welding, which joins parts together, is essential for ensuring the strength and safety of the vehicle body. However, misalignment of parts can lead to unexpected deformation, potentially resulting in reduced quality and productivity. Traditionally, adjustments have been made through trial and error using actual parts and equipment. This method has been problematic due to its significant time and cost burden.
Benefits of implementing REGALIS Fusion “Digital Assembly”
REGALIS Fusion is a Cyber-Physical System (CPS) solution that combines physical measurement data with simulation technology in a virtual environment.
Based on measurement data from the actual parts, we predict in advance the deformation caused by the welding jig clamps (devices that hold parts in the correct position) and spot welding. We then consider the optimal jig adjustment method and welding sequence.
By evaluating the gaps and stress distribution within the plates, we can more rationally and quickly identify the cause of deformation and develop countermeasures.
Digital assembly reduces the number of prototypes, shortens production preparation time, and lowers costs. In addition, it significantly contributes to the production of high-quality vehicle bodies through stable quality control.
