JOLIGood Co., Ltd. has launched “Understanding a New Perspective on Dementia” as new content for its VR (Virtual Reality) training program “FACEDUO,” a joint project with Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., in conjunction with World Alzheimer’s Day (September 21). This content allows users to experience the perspective of someone diagnosed with dementia in VR, deepening their understanding of a “new perspective on dementia” that shows that people with dementia can continue to live their lives in their communities in their own way, and learning how to interact appropriately with people with dementia.

The “Basic Act on Dementia for Promoting the Realization of an Inclusive Society,” enacted in January 2024, aims to create an “inclusive society” where all citizens, including people with dementia, can demonstrate their individuality and abilities, and support each other while respecting their personality and individuality. Another important concept is the dissemination of a “new view of dementia,” which states that even if one develops dementia, one can continue to live life to the fullest with hope and in one’s own way. In the past, dementia was associated with images such as “people with dementia don’t understand anything,” “they become unable to do anything,” and “it becomes difficult to live in the community.” However, in recent years, it has been reported that living each day with a sense of purpose and meaning in life may contribute to maintaining cognitive function or suppressing cognitive decline*1. As the population ages and everyone, including family members, those around us, and ourselves, is susceptible to dementia, it is necessary to understand this “new view of dementia” and consider what can be done to continue living life to the fullest even if one develops dementia.
