Akuru has started providing its ASUKA-3DS identity verification system to Shaddy Gift Mall, operated by Shaddy Co., Japan’s largest online gift store. The service uses EMV 3-D Secure authentication selectively for high-risk transactions instead of applying additional verification to every purchase. It also uses a modal interface designed to keep the checkout process smooth. The move comes as Japan’s mandatory 3DS requirements have pushed e-commerce businesses to strengthen payment security.

At the same time, merchants remain concerned that additional authentication could create friction and lead to purchase drop-offs. Shaddy chose ASUKA-3DS to address both priorities, improving fraud protection while keeping the shopping experience as seamless as possible.
