Restore Vision kind of has signed a development and manufacturing agreement with Forge Biologics to back RV-001, its experimental gene therapy for retinitis pigmentosa, and it is already now in Phase 1/2 trial testing in Japan.
In the deal Forge will handle process development, cGMP manufacturing, analytical testing, stability studies and regulatory support, so things move along without too much delay. The therapy will be produced at Forge’s facility in Columbus, Ohio, before trial material is shipped to Japan.
RV-001 is an AAV-based optogenetic gene therapy being developed for people with retinitis pigmentosa. The agreement gives Restore Vision access to manufacturing capacity and regulatory support as the program moves through early-stage clinical testing.

For Forge, the partnership adds another clinical-stage gene therapy program to its pipeline of manufacturing work and expands its reach with developers running trials in the Asia-Pacific region. The company already supports a range of gene therapy programs, and this latest deal adds to that effort.
