Universal Robots is pleased to announce the ” UR Physical AI Development Support Program “, which will support the development and on-site implementation of physical AI. This program will provide comprehensive support to domestic partner companies from physical AI development to practical application through the provision of actual UR robots, special pricing, technical support, introduction of PoC projects, and joint promotion.
UR’s collaborative robots have been used for automation purposes in manufacturing plants, as well as for many years as a research and development platform for robotics technology at universities and research institutions around the world. Three key features—an open development environment, real-time status data acquisition, and safety backed by a track record of over 100,000 units being deployed—support this widespread use.
On the other hand, in physical AI development, it has been pointed out that, from the perspective of cost and ease of handling, if data collection and model training are performed using general-purpose robots for research purposes, problems arise in accuracy and stability when the model is subsequently deployed to industrial robots used in the field. Furthermore, the more autonomous movement by AI is integrated into the overall control system, the more the system becomes a black box, making on-site operation and maintenance difficult, which is an obstacle to moving from development to field implementation.

UR collaborative robots have long been used not only for automation in manufacturing sites but also as a platform supporting advanced robotics technology research and development at universities and research institutions worldwide. They possess the flexibility and scalability demanded by developers, and the knowledge and development assets from previous research using UR robots are accumulated and shared within the community, making them an ideal foundation for physical AI development. Through this program, which leverages this foundation, we aim to expand collaboration with partner companies, promote the implementation of physical AI in manufacturing sites, and strengthen sales of UR robot products.
