Rapidus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fondazione Chips-IT, an Italian foundation focused on semiconductor circuit design, as the company continues to build international partnerships around next-generation chip manufacturing.
The agreement arrives as technology cooperation between Japan and Italy seems to be growing, like pretty steadily. Earlier this year the leaders of both countries reaffirmed, plans to push collaboration further in advanced areas like semiconductors, AI robotics, and bio manufacturing. The MoU was signed amid wider efforts to deepen that ties, after high level talks between the two governments.
For Rapidus, this is another step toward enlarging its semiconductor network across Europe. Like, just a day earlier, the company announced a similar arrangement with the UK Semiconductor Centre, which is an organization that supports the UK’s semiconductor business.

Rapidus is currently running pilot production as it works toward commercial production of 2nm logic semiconductors in Japan by 2027. Through its agreements with Fondazione Chips-IT and the UK Semiconductor Centre, the company plans to begin information sharing and discussions aimed at strengthening future collaboration in semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing.
