Fastly, Inc., a global leader in edge cloud platforms, and La Liga, Spain’s professional football league, announced that they have partnered to develop technical solutions to address fraudulent streaming in live sports broadcasts, particularly La Liga matches.
According to La Liga, the estimated annual losses due to pirated content amount to $700 million to $800 million (approximately 105 billion to 120 billion yen) for all member clubs. Through a joint anti-piracy project, Fastly and La Liga aim to support each platform in combating pirated content, while also helping rights holders, including La Liga, protect the strategic and economic value of copyrighted content and curb its misuse.
Fastly and La Liga began collaborating in 2025 to address the current situation where numerous unauthorized streaming sites are active on match days. To combat the theft of La Liga content, Fastly has developed a sophisticated integrated system that uses AI and proprietary content signals to identify unauthorized streaming in real time.

According to a 2025 study by Grant Thornton, more than 10.8 million instances of illegal streaming were detected in 2024, with over 81% of them not being shut down, and only 2.7% being addressed within 30 minutes of the event starting.
Fastly’s solutions are designed to enable businesses using their platforms to remove pirated content with extremely high precision, significantly reducing the time pirated content is available. This unique approach reflects Fastly’s strong commitment to leveraging technology to help customers protect their platforms and better safeguard rights holders’ intellectual property, without relying on legal enforcement against intermediaries.
This project is part of a broader effort to enable media and publishers to identify identified pirated content. Fastly and La Liga are actively collaborating with other technology companies, publishers, and regulators to develop software solutions and best practices that can quickly detect and block unauthorized streaming without impacting legitimate traffic.
This partnership also demonstrates Fastly‘s commitment to contributing to its customer community and collaborating with organizations like La Liga. The goal is to build a trustworthy web that benefits both consumers and the organizations that provide them with entertainment, information, and engaging experiences.
