JR East Startup Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of JR East that promotes investment in and collaboration with venture companies, and New Space Intelligence Co., Ltd., which develops a satellite data utilization platform using calibration technology, have agreed to a capital and business alliance with the aim of realizing new maintenance technologies that utilize satellite data in railway infrastructure owned by the JR East Group.
JR East Group and NSI have been collaborating on the use of satellite data in the maintenance of railway infrastructure as part of the JR East Startup Program in the fall of 2024. JR East has a vast business area spanning approximately 7,400 km, and maintaining its railway tracks and surrounding environment is a crucial issue for ensuring railway safety. While various methods and technologies have been used in the past, such as on-site inspections by humans, monitoring by ground equipment, and aerial monitoring by drones, they are now also challenging themselves to monitor from space using satellite data.

Furthermore, NSI’s unique calibration technology, which can transform multiple satellite data as if they were taken by the same satellite, brings “increased observation frequency,” “cost reduction,” and “service availability” to satellite data utilization businesses. Another major feature is that the service can be used continuously without being affected by the sudden operational shutdown of a specific satellite. This is highly compatible with businesses that support society, such as railway operations, and we are collaborating to further improve the safety of railway operations through the use of satellite data.
