Furuno Electric Co., Ltd. has officially launched its global ocean condition forecast data service based on its proprietary ocean condition forecasting system, “Phizmo.” To coincide with the launch of this service, the Company has opened a special website that aggregates information for users, and will begin providing highly accurate ocean data to companies, local governments, and research institutions.
Background to the launch of the service
With the increasing risks of climate change and marine disasters, and the sophistication of the marine industry, high-precision oceanographic data is becoming increasingly important as a foundation supporting social safety, economic activity, and environmental protection. However, while oceanographic data based on numerical models is widely used, it has faced challenges such as coarse spatial and temporal resolution, making it difficult to fully utilize for understanding coastal areas and localized phenomena, and for practical decision-making.
Furthermore, even when data exists, there are many cases where it is not fully utilized because people do not know how to use it or how to integrate it into their operations. To address these challenges, our company has developed “Phizmo,” a unique oceanographic forecasting system that enables high-resolution and high-precision oceanographic forecasting by combining our expertise in the marine field cultivated through marine navigation electronic equipment for ships with satellite data assimilation and numerical prediction technologies.
