Japan Post Co., Ltd. will begin offering “Business Digital Address,” a business version of its “Digital Address” which allows addresses to be represented using seven alphanumeric characters, starting March 19, 2026.
This service provides a system that allows companies and sole proprietors to register and share their business information, as well as accurately acquire and utilize information about their business partners using a common code.
By centrally managing company information such as addresses, company names, phone numbers, company website URLs, and corporate identification numbers linked to a 7-digit alphanumeric code, we reduce the burden of information entry and updating in inter-company transactions and promote the integration and utilization of data that tends to be scattered. By creating an environment where business information can be smoothly disseminated and shared, we will evolve inter-company information sharing into a more efficient and accurate process.

Address information is extremely important data in business-to-business transactions, serving as the foundation for customer information management, contract procedures, delivery, sales, and marketing.
However, with the current address management system, a great deal of time and cost is spent to maintain up-to-date and accurate information, including correcting inconsistencies and duplicate data in business address notations, and updating information when businesses relocate.
Furthermore, because Japan’s address system is based on land parcels, there are many cases where multiple buildings or tenants coexist within the same address, or where only one address is assigned to a vast plot of land, making it difficult to pinpoint a location.
These challenges related to address information not only lead to misdeliveries in inter-company logistics and increased workload due to data maintenance, but also cause “information silos” where data is managed individually by department or location, posing a major obstacle to promoting company-wide data integration and DX (Digital Transformation).
It is no exaggeration to say that the “quality of addresses” is directly linked to the “quality of business activities” itself. Against this backdrop, Japan Post is working to improve the business information of corporations and sole proprietors, including their addresses.
We are launching “Business Digital Address” as a new social infrastructure that can be managed and utilized accurately and efficiently.
