Nulab Inc. will begin offering the Backlog AI Assistant, an operational support AI feature for its project and task management tool Backlog, Thursday, March 5, 2026. The Backlog AI Assistant uses AI to comprehensively read information stored in Backlog, including issues, comments, wikis, and documents, and provides support in chat format for organizing the situation, extracting key points, and creating issues.
Background: Project management does not progress with visualization alone
In companies, project-based work that spans departments and organizations is on the rise, and visualization through management tools has progressed. However, “having information” and “moving forward” are not synonymous. Operations such as issuing documents, tracking progress, and creating reports are still human-dependent, and progress management is often concentrated on specific members. Against this backdrop, the “Backlog AI Assistant” was designed as an AI that organizes accumulated information across departments and leads to decision-making that takes into account the overall status of the project.
In fact, companies that have adopted the beta version are using it to organize situations based on Backlog’s action history and task information in response to questions such as “Who should I assign this task to?”, “Which task is a member stuck on?”, and “Are there any risks due to deadlines being exceeded or dependencies?” This is based on the assumption of an organization’s unique business context, which is difficult to achieve with AI specialized for specific tasks.

Daily work management becomes the data foundation that reflects the movement of the organization. Based on this structure, Backlog AI Assistant will evolve into a presence that supports team progress and decision-making for the entire organization.
