Background of collaboration between Asteria ART and JAOPS
In recent years, with the Artemis program in the United States at the forefront, interest in space business has grown rapidly worldwide, and investment has expanded. However, the field of space robotics continues to face many technical and operational challenges. In particular, when developing robots that can adapt to the extreme environment of space, there are limited opportunities for field testing on Earth, which is causing serious problems such as rising development costs and delays in verification. Furthermore, the current situation, which requires dependence on the few rocket launch opportunities available, is creating a bottleneck for the space business.
Asteria and Asteria ART have developed and are providing “Artefacts,” a continuous simulation platform for robot applications. Artefacts is a development environment that enables centralized management of virtual robot application operational tests and simulations without the need for actual equipment or physical environments. This significantly reduces rework in robot development, which previously relied on physical testing, and dramatically improves development efficiency and speed. This reduces development time by more than 98% and development costs by more than 50% , and shortens the time to start development from several months to as little as one day, thereby improving productivity across the entire robot development process.

JAOPS is a Japan-based startup providing space operations as a service (Space OaaS) and ground segment solutions. It has a proven track record in a variety of projects, including operational support for the International Space Station (ISS), Earth observation missions, lunar probes, rovers, and drones. It utilizes technologies such as Yamcs (an open-source system for monitoring and operating satellites and probes from the ground) to build a highly scalable and sustainable mission control environment. Based on the philosophy of “Never Fly Alone,” JAOPS focuses on developing operational infrastructure that emphasizes collaboration and reliability.
