NTT DOCOMO, INC. has started commercial use of an AI agent system to run and protect its mobile network. This is not a lab pilot. It is live inside one of the world’s most complex telecom environments.
Mobile networks today are messy. 4G and 5G run together. Multiple vendors. Multiple domains. When something breaks and the fix is obvious, automation works. But when the failure is layered and unclear, teams sit around pulling logs, scanning alarms, debating root causes. That delay hits service quality.
DOCOMO’s new system changes that equation. The system operates through Amazon Web Services managed services which collect network traffic and alarm information from more than one million devices. The system uses multiple AI agents to analyze data in real time while detecting anomalies and pinpointing potential fault areas and suggesting appropriate solutions.

The company claims response times drop by more than 50 percent versus traditional processes. The bigger signal here is not just faster troubleshooting. It is the shift from human-led coordination to AI-led diagnosis at scale. Telecom networks are becoming too complex for manual orchestration. AI agents are stepping in as the new control layer.
