SoftBank Corp. The Koshizuka Laboratory at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies plans to form the ‘xIPF Consortium’ with partner organizations and companies. This will be set up as a general incorporated association in fiscal year 2025. The consortium will create a new data collaboration platform called a ‘Data Space.’ This platform aims to boost large-scale data use with artificial intelligence (AI).
On October 7, 2025, the xIPF Consortium Preparatory Committee will be formed. We’re launching a new framework for data collaboration across industries. This is just the first step.
Building the base for an AI-driven data system
As AI grows, we need safe ways to share and use the huge data created every day by cities, businesses, and people. Data held separately by various organizations needs to be connected on a shared platform. This platform should store, process, and organize the data. It must make the meaning and context clear. This system would let AI make the best predictions and decisions for different applications and situations.

The xIPF Consortium wants to create and manage advanced data spaces. These spaces will allow easy data sharing across different industries. The consortium aims to boost data sharing and interoperability. This will speed up building a sustainable, competitive social infrastructure. It will also unlock new services and value in areas like mobility, energy, retail, and urban development.
Kick-off and collaborative outreach
The consortium’s prep committee will kick off on October 7, 2025, before the official launch. This event will share the consortium’s vision. It will link industry stakeholders, local governments, and schools. It will also aim to boost participation through open collaboration and co-creation.
Roles of the founding organizations
SoftBank has been working on xIPF, the Super Distributed Computing Platform, since 2023. This is part of its larger goal to create next-generation digital infrastructure. The consortium plans to use its expertise to create an advanced data space. It will combine this with its AI data centers and computing platforms. Also, it will integrate ‘Sarashina,’ a large-scale Japanese language model being developed by its subsidiary, SB Intuitions Corp. This integrated infrastructure drives digital innovation. It supports industrial activities and helps tackle complex social challenges.
The Koshizuka Laboratory excels at helping find data across different fields. It also ensures that various data-driven services work well together. Its mission is to ensure smooth data sharing and use across sectors. It also supports social use and global growth of data-driven innovation. The lab will use its experience to help the consortium improve data use with AI.
