Valens Semiconductor (Valens) announced that in response to growing demand from global automakers, Samsung has supported the MIPI A-PHY standard for high-speed sensor connectivity and is partnering with Valens to develop next-generation MIPI A-PHY compliant products.
Valens and Samsung have a long-standing collaborative relationship. Samsung was one of Valens’ early investors. Valens and Samsung are also founding members of the HDBaseT Alliance, the largest interoperability ecosystem in the ProAV industry, which currently includes more than 200 companies.
“The MIPI A-PHY standard is rapidly gaining adoption across the industry,” said Taejoong Song, corporate vice president of Foundry Technology Planning at Samsung Electronics. “Automakers are demanding next-generation connectivity solutions to support more advanced ADAS and autonomous driving, and A-PHY provides a key technological breakthrough to make this possible. Samsung FinFET technology for automotive applications delivers exceptional performance, and we are committed to working with Valens to deliver cutting-edge solutions leveraging our advanced automotive process.”

“Having a major electronics manufacturer like Samsung announce its support for MIPI A-PHY is a clear indication that this standard is the future of in-vehicle connectivity technology,” said Gideon Ben-Zvi, CEO of Valens Semiconductor. “Following announcing three design wins with major European automakers, Valens, with the backing of Mobileye, is now moving forward with even greater momentum in A-PHY product development. We look forward to collaborating with Samsung on next-generation A-PHY products.”
Samsung Foundry will manufacture Valens’ MIPI A-PHY chipsets using a proven, advanced automotive process node. This advanced process is backed by Samsung’s deep technical capabilities, intellectual property (IP) and service package development capabilities, enabling manufacturers to deliver advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving innovations. Samsung FinFET technology for automotive-grade applications features strict process control and advanced IP, ensuring superior reliability and traceability.
MIPI A-PHY is the first automotive industry standard established for high-speed sensor and display connectivity. The ecosystem of companies developing MIPI A-PHY compliant products is steadily expanding . As a leading company in MIPI A-PHY, Valens was the first to offer the A-PHY compliant chipset “VA7000 series” on the market, and has achieved design wins from automakers.
