Addressing Key Issues in Electrical Equipment Management
As part of its medium-term management plan through fiscal year 2026, Osaki Electric is committed to delivering new solutions to pressing social challenges, including a shrinking labor force and the shift to a decarbonized society.
To that end, the company has focused on offering products, such as smart meters that measure and control electricity, helping resolve operational challenges for clients managing commercial properties.
Facilities like office and retail buildings are equipped with substations and switchboards, which require inspection and maintenance by licensed chief electrical engineers. Additionally, electricity billing for tenants often still relies on manual meter reading, with personnel visiting each site to record consumption.
However, with a growing shortage of qualified technicians and meter readers, digitizing and automating these operations has become an urgent necessity.
From Meter Reading Automation to Smart Security Innovation
(1) Enhancing Meter Reading Efficiency
In 2023, Osaki Electric launched Easy Meter Reading, a solution that enables remote, automated electricity usage measurement by replacing conventional meters with smart meters. This significantly reduces labor costs and improves billing accuracy.
Powered by SORACOM’s IoT communication and cloud platform, Easy Meter Reading benefited from rapid development and nationwide deployment capabilities. The platform’s compatibility with multiple communication networks ensured reliable service delivery across diverse environments.
(2) Advancing Facility Security Operations
Building on the success of Easy Meter Reading, Osaki Electric has developed a verification model to advance smart security solutions that enhance operational efficiency and sophistication in facility monitoring.
The model integrates Osaki Electric’s multi-data collection device with the SORACOM IoT platform. This device connects to multiple sensors and instruments to collect real-time data on the condition of electrical equipment. Continuous monitoring enables early detection of potential issues, such as electrical leaks or overcurrents, thereby reducing manual inspections and preventing incidents.
The model is also being tested for its potential to identify equipment failures and irregularities, which would support efficient maintenance and timely equipment upgrades.
Looking Ahead
Osaki Electric will continue its demonstration initiatives with the aim of commercializing smart security solutions. By combining automated meter reading with smart security capabilities, the company seeks to deliver integrated facility management, reducing the need for on-site visits and unlocking new value from operational data.
Through these efforts, SORACOM and Osaki Electric Co aim to drive greater efficiency and sophistication in electricity usage and infrastructure management. Together, the two companies remain committed to advancing digital transformation and contributing to a more sustainable society.
