Showcase Co., Ltd. has begun providing its identity verification tool, ProTech ID Checker, to Itsumo Co., Ltd. for its personal free loan service. The implementation is designed to strengthen identity verification while keeping the application process convenient for customers.
Itsumo was preparing for changes to the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds, including a shift toward identity verification using IC chip reading. At the same time, identity theft contracts, where borrowers impersonate others using names or forged documents, have become more frequent and sophisticated. This has increased the need for stronger measures to prevent fraudulent loan applications while maintaining regulatory compliance.
ProTech ID Checker was selected because it can be introduced without complex system development and adapted more flexibly to legal changes, helping reduce maintenance demands after deployment.

Itsumo uses two verification methods together, the H method and the K method, also known as JPKI. This gives customers an alternative if they forget the PIN required for one verification route. The H method reads the IC chip of documents such as My Number Cards and compares the information with a facial photograph taken by the customer, helping reduce the burden of identity verification.
In actual operations, verification using IC chip data has also helped detect and prevent fraudulent contracts. The implementation therefore combines stricter identity checks with a smoother application experience, addressing both security requirements and customer convenience in personal lending.
