KDDI and NEC have spun up a new joint venture called United Cyber Force Inc. and the whole move is tied to a broader collaboration the two firms kicked off back in May 2025. The point is pretty direct. Cyberattacks keep rising in Japan and abroad and Japanese companies are getting exposed not just in their own networks but across their global supply chains. It has turned cybersecurity into a national security issue instead of a routine IT checkbox.
Both companies are treating this as a space that needs everyone pulling together, from government bodies to enterprises to individuals. With UCF, they plan to pool their strengths and look for business opportunities that actually help Japanese organizations defend themselves on a global scale and keep the domestic environment secure.
The job of UCF is clear. The team will build and pitch cybersecurity solutions to government agencies and corporations that line up with Japan’s security policies, especially around active cyber defense. The goal is to offer advanced defense capabilities that can hold up in both domestic and international markets instead of one off, siloed solutions.

Next step is to fold in support from LAC and NEC Security, the group companies already doing heavy lifting in the security world. Together with UCF, they want to build an active cyber defense response system that can raise the security baseline inside Japan and also support organizations outside the country.
