Akamai and MuleSoft have expanded their technology partnership to integrate real-time API security intelligence with AI policy management, extending governance across MuleSoft’s Agent Fabric. The integration connects Akamai API Security with Agent Fabric to help organizations manage APIs, AI agents, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers across distributed environments.
The companies said the collaboration addresses security gaps created by unmanaged APIs and the growing use of shadow AI. According to Akamai’s 2026 research on the impact of API security, 87% of organizations experienced an API-related security incident in 2025.
The expanded integration establishes a bidirectional data synchronization layer between the two platforms. MuleSoft Exchange automatically synchronizes API specifications and environment data with Akamai, allowing teams to compare documented designs with actual traffic. This can help identify differences between intended and real-world environments, including undocumented and deprecated endpoints.
At the same time, Akamai continuously analyzes API activity from connected traffic sources and environments. Behavioral analysis data and threat-risk scores are provided to MuleSoft’s integration control plane, giving organizations greater visibility into API activity that might otherwise remain unidentified. The companies said this approach can also help address blind spots involving shadow APIs and MCP servers that may not be detected through point-in-time security assessments.

Agent Fabric provides a framework for managing and governing APIs, MCP servers, AI agents, and interactions with AI. Akamai API Security adds capabilities for API discovery, security posture assessment, runtime analysis, and testing across API environments. By combining these capabilities, teams can gain a clearer view of which assets exist, which are governed, and where additional security measures may be required.
Akamai API Security and Agent Fabric are technically integrated, with more than 20 companies using the combined features. Akamai said it plans to release product updates in the second half of 2026 including native MuleSoft onboarding features and stronger runtime security, for AI and MCP environments.
The partnership shows how important API governance has become as companies increase their use of AI applications and agent-based processes. By combining API management security insights and AI governance Akamai and MuleSoft want to help organizations get visibility and better control over the systems that support these applications.
