EXEDY Corporation is making a clear move to strengthen its drone business. Following the closure of Kitagawa Iron Works’ UAV Promotion Office and its subsidiary AileLinX Inc., EXEDY has acquired the UAV-related business assets held by Kitagawa Iron Works and AileLinX.
This is an asset acquisition, not a company takeover. No liabilities are being assumed. What EXEDY has acquired is focused and strategic. The target is the UAV development business previously operated by Kitagawa Iron Works’ UAV Promotion Office and AileLinX. Along with that comes development equipment and facilities, intellectual property rights, and the products developed and owned by that business.
The ground for the move is built upon the notion of capability development. EXEDY has been using drivetrain technologies which have been refined through decades in the automotive industry to expand into next-generation mobility, including drones. On the other side, the Kitagawa Iron Works Group built a strong reputation in industrial UAV development, particularly around aircraft control.

With the Kitagawa group exiting the UAV space, EXEDY stepped in to take over what matters most. Advanced aircraft control technology, including proprietary flight controller-based control systems, and accumulated UAV control and design know-how.
By combining this with EXEDY’s strengths in quality assurance and mass production, the company is aiming to build a drone development framework that is safer, higher-performing, and more reliable at scale.
Looking ahead, EXEDY plans to use these inherited technologies as a base for new value creation in the drone space. As drones move deeper into real-world use, the company intends to strengthen aircraft development, solution delivery, and the expansion of DaaS, or Drone as a Service.
The focus is not just on building drones, but on solving customer problems and accelerating real-world deployment. EXEDY’s stated direction is to develop drone products that society actually needs, speed up social implementation, and contribute to a more functional and efficient future.
