Preferred Networks, Inc. has developed a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox for PLaMo™ Translation , a large-scale language model (LLM) developed from scratch by PFN specifically for Japanese translation , and has begun offering a free trial with unlimited translation pages for a limited time until the end of August 2025.*
Users of this extension can use PLaMo Translation to machine translate all or part of the text of a page they are viewing in their web browser from Japanese to English or from English to Japanese, and view it in the same layout, including images. Currently, the PLaMo Translation Chrome extension can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store , and the Firefox add-on can be downloaded from addons.mozilla.org (AMO) .
Since its launch in May 2025, PLaMo Translation has been used by over 10,000 people on both the free demo site where users can input text and translate, and on-premise environments based on the PLaMo Community License , and has received high praise for its translation quality. In response to many requests for a browser extension that would allow PLaMo Translation to be easily used in everyday situations such as gathering and disseminating information and reading technical documents, the company decided to develop it.
