Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. will begin offering an AI-based “Current Visualization and Impact Analysis Service”. This service will help companies resolve the issues they face in modernizing their legacy systems2 due to the “2025 Cliff1 ” problem . Specifically , NRI’s unique know-how and AI will be used to grasp the overall structure of the current system and investigate and analyze the impact of system changes. This will support efficient and effective modernization planning, aiming for sustainable system transformation for companies.
“Current visualization” is essential for successful modernization. This is the process of clarifying the overall picture of the existing system and specifically understanding its functions and data flows. However, in many companies, technical debt4 has accumulated in the current system , leaving complex and opaque parts, and system design documents are also affected by incomplete documents and a mixture of various file formats such as handwritten, Excel, and Word, making visualization more difficult. As a result, defects occur when designing new systems because important functions are missing or dependencies between systems cannot be understood. This increases the risk of increased response costs and schedule delays.
The key to “current visualization” is the “redocumentation” of the system. “Redocumentation” is the process of extracting necessary information from existing design documents, codes, manuals, etc. and reconstructing them into materials that can be used in new systems. NRI proposes “redocumentation” using AI to help understand the current state of the system. This allows you to quickly and accurately understand the data flow of the entire system and provide a foundation for modernization plans.
By using AI, you can efficiently understand the data flow of complex enterprise systems and improve the quality of the plan. In addition, AI organizes and structures existing documents in various file formats. It is possible to create redocumentation of higher quality than if it were created manually.

In addition, based on the created materials, we support migration to the latest efficient platform. This allows companies to formulate effective migration strategies and optimize operations. NRI has already deployed deliverables using redocumentation to many companies, and is helping them understand the current state of their systems and quickly advance modernization plans.
Impact analysis is the process of analyzing the impact of system changes and evaluating the areas of change and the degree of coupling between systems. NRI’s “impact analysis tool” visualizes the relationships between system assets and can instantly show the scope of impact of changes and the degree of coupling between systems. This enables companies to quickly identify the scope of impact, accurately estimate the amount of work required, and minimize the risk of defects and failures that accompany system changes.
NRI has begun using impact analysis tools in its in-house system development to reduce the amount of work required for investigating current systems, analyze failures, and modernize them.
NRI is expanding its modernization support services, including “current visualization and impact analysis services,” “AI reconstruction” and “AI testing and migration” that utilize AI. We plan to provide services that realize development support and automatic screen testing using AI in the first half of fiscal year 2025. Through these services, we aim to help companies grow and strengthen their competitiveness.
