Fujitsu Limited and IBM Japan, Ltd. have agreed to explore collaboration in the areas of “AI,” “hybrid cloud,” and “healthcare” in the Japanese market, combining the technologies and knowledge of both companies to accelerate transformation by creating new value through co-creation, with the aim of using advanced technology to solve various social issues facing Japan and realize a better society.
Areas of collaboration under consideration
AI for businesses
As the use of AI in companies advances, expectations are rising for improved productivity and competitive advantage through industry-specific and business-specific AI, but the establishment of AI infrastructure has become an urgent issue. Fujitsu and IBM Japan aim to contribute to the innovation of social systems in the AI era through collaboration that leverages the strengths of both companies.

Hybrid Cloud
As IT systems move towards hybrid clouds, issues arise such as the need to improve operations at the data center level, optimize costs, and modernize current systems. Through this collaboration, Fujitsu and IBM Japan aim to contribute to the innovation of social systems in hybrid cloud environments.

The two companies will bring together the value and assets of their general-purpose and industry-specific/business-specific cloud environments, as well as methods for enhancing them, and will explore further application of data center collaboration, automation, and FinOps (a framework that combines finance and operations for sustainable and highly efficient resource utilization) with the aim of building a system environment that complies with relevant domestic laws and regulations.
We will also begin considering migration to a hybrid cloud environment for modernization.
Mutual use AI and data collaboration in healthcare
Japan faces a variety of healthcare challenges, including maintaining a sustainable medical system and reducing drug waste. Utilizing medical data with AI could be one way to solve these issues, but currently there is insufficient usable medical data, and AI has not yet been implemented in society to solve a wide range of issues. Through their collaboration, Fujitsu and IBM Japan aim to contribute to solving these issues.
(Contents of consideration)
On the premise of protecting the rights of medical data subjects and complying with appropriate laws and regulations, the two companies will consider linking their medical data platforms to solve issues in the healthcare field, and will also begin considering collaboration on AI services that utilize the medical data platforms.
Fujitsu‘s purpose is to “build trust in society through innovation and make the world more sustainable,” and it is working to create a variety of technologies and contribute to the development of society and its customers. IBM‘s purpose is to “become a catalyst that changes the world for the better,” and it aims to evolve technology for society, contributing to the creation of a safer and more secure society and the resolution of social issues.
The two companies will continue to discuss issues in each area in order to realize their shared value of “making society better and more sustainable through technology,” and aim to conclude an agreement to materialize these discussions by 2025.
