TDK Corporation has announced the acquisition of U.S.-based systems solutions company SoftEye, Inc., a move aimed at accelerating the integration of artificial intelligence into smart glasses and bolstering TDK’s AI ecosystem portfolio. Following the acquisition, SoftEye now operates as an indirectly wholly owned subsidiary of TDK.
Headquartered in San Diego, California, SoftEye specializes in the development of custom chips, cameras, software, and algorithms tailored for smart glasses. The company’s vision is to seamlessly connect users with generative AI through a fully integrated system that powers what it calls “the eyes for AI” (eyeGenI™, eyeGI™). Its proprietary always-on chips and sensor systems use an innovative combination of hardware and software to enable low-power eye tracking and object recognition, key components in AR/VR display systems and next-generation Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) driven by eye movement.
“SoftEye brings expertise in algorithms, cameras, and low-power chip design, which positions TDK at the forefront of advancing AR consumer technologies,” said Jim Tran, Corporate Officer at TDK Corporation.
