Jupiter Shop Channel Co., Ltd. and Insight Edge Inc. have jointly developed an optimization system that utilizes AI for program scheduling, which is the core of Shop Channel’s business, and began full-scale operational use in December 2025.
This system introduces the latest AI technology to program scheduling, which has traditionally been done by staff who make empirical decisions while referencing vast amounts of data. It automatically generates programming proposals that maximize sales and the number of new customers from a vast number of patterns that would be impossible for a human to consider, while adhering to complex scheduling rules and policies. This simultaneously achieves data-driven decision-making and dramatic improvements in operational efficiency. Insight Edge, which promotes business advancements through digital transformation at Sumitomo Corporation Group companies, provided consistent support, from understanding on-site operations to designing and evaluating algorithms and developing the system.
Shop Channel introduces approximately 500 products per week through live broadcasts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Program scheduling is one of Shop Channel’s most important tasks, directly linked to its unique “customer value proposition,” which not only influences sales but also allows customers to discover a wide variety of products and experience the joy of shopping through its programs. Previously, staff analyzed customer attributes and product performance data, combining this data with experience-based judgment, to schedule programs.

However, due to the enormous amount of data and constraints that needed to be considered, manually deriving optimal combinations required significant man-hours and limited the number of patterns that could be considered. To address these challenges, Insight Edge partnered with Shop Channel‘s Data Strategy Department to convert staff’s tacit knowledge into algorithms and promote a project to automate and optimize programming operations using AI technology.
