Hitachi, Ltd. and NTT DOCOMO, INC. conducted a joint demonstration aimed at commercializing an AI agent specialized for system operations using generative AI in DOCOMO’s Information Systems Department. In this demonstration, Hitachi combined Hitachi’s extensive experience in building platforms for utilizing generative AI and best practices for implementing AI agents based on the concepts of “lift to AI” and “shift to AI” with DOCOMO’s long-standing expertise in the stable operation of large-scale systems to build a platform that promotes the use of generative AI in the Information Systems Department and develop an AI agent specialized for system operations. The joint trial operation with DOCOMO confirmed the effectiveness of the AI agent in three use cases: incident case search and response, decision-making and communication of incident information, and automated decision-making on patch application. Furthermore, the automated decision-making on patch application was confirmed to reduce work time by more than 50%.
Based on the results of this demonstration, Hitachi aims to improve the efficiency of the entire Information Systems Department and automate system operation tasks by expanding the use cases in which the AI agent is applied and increasing the number of users. In the future, Hitachi will also expand AI agents based on the idea of lifting to AI to other industries and sectors that require stable operation of large-scale, complex IT systems that support social infrastructure, and further establish a mechanism for shifting to AI, thereby promoting further work transformation for system engineers and contributing to improved productivity and sustainable growth for society as a whole.

In recent years, the declining working population and aging population have led to a serious labor shortage in the field of IT system operations for social infrastructure. Hitachi aims to realize AI for social infrastructure*4, which will contribute to a sustainable society by integrating digital technologies, centered around AI, into social infrastructure. In the operation of increasingly complex and sophisticated IT systems, the knowledge required to respond to changes in regulations and technology is increasing, and the transfer of know-how necessary for operation work is becoming increasingly difficult due to the dependency on individuals for the work and the lack of manuals and data. To address these issues, Hitachi conducted this demonstration in collaboration with DOCOMO, aiming to utilize AI technology to transfer on-site knowledge and know-how and improve operational efficiency, thereby contributing to the stable operation of social infrastructure and the sustainable growth of companies.
