The Deep Research tool, an artificial intelligence (AI) agent released by OpenAI in February 2025, can search the web and create a detailed report in 5 to 30 minutes, a task that would take a human several hours. This useful tool has just become even more useful. Output as PDF OpenAI announced on May 12th that it can now output the Deep Research report as a PDF file. This PDF contains all the elements that make up the report, including tables, images, sources, and citations with links. Creating a PDF is easy; just click the “Download as PDF” option at the top of the report, as shown in the video below.
The feature is now available for paid users of ChatGPT’s Plus, Team, and Pro plans. It will also be available to users of the Enterprise and Edu plans soon. The full version of Deep Research is only available to paid users, but free users can use a lightweight version that generates short reports. Deep Research is particularly useful for business people and students, as it allows for in-depth analysis of a single topic with minimal effort. However, you will likely want to share your findings with your team or colleagues. This is where the ability to export the AI-compiled report as a nicely formatted PDF comes in handy. This makes it easy for everyone to access the same information, whether they use ChatGPT or not. Other options This feature is new to ChatGPT, but other AI chatbots already offer similar features.

For example, Google’s Gemini also lets you create reports using a feature with the exact same name, Deep Research, and export the reports to Google Docs. Perplexity’s Deep Research feature also exports a PDF similar to ChatGPT’s. However, when ZDNET compared ChatGPT’s Deep Research with the research features of Gemini, Perplexity, and xAI’s Grok, ChatGPT was clearly the winner.
