iRidge Co., Ltd. and Tokyu Construction Co., Ltd. are pleased to announce that they have begun offering “Tool Mikke II,” an improved version of the tool management digital transformation service “Tool Mikke” jointly developed by the two companies, from April 2025.
“Tool Mikke” was launched in October 2022 as a tool management digital transformation service that uses RFID (radio frequency identification) tags and a smartphone app. In response to requests from users that have emerged as the service has been introduced at construction sites, including Tokyu Construction, construction companies, and railway operators, we have improved the app interface and simplified the tool registration flow, and now allow the use of QR codes as tool identification tags. By adopting SCANDIT’s technology, it has become possible to read multiple tools at once using the app even when using QR codes, further lowering the barrier to use. We will continue to aim to expand adoption in the future.
In railway construction, for example, tool management at construction sites has required a lot of time and effort because misplacing equipment can lead to serious incidents. With the development of IT, there have been many voices calling for a reduction in labor costs while ensuring accuracy. At the time, the construction industry was rushing to take measures against the “2024 Problem in the Construction Industry,” which will see the enforcement of upper limits on overtime work, and “Tool Mikke” was launched with the aim of supporting business efficiency through digital transformation of tool management.
In April 2024, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced “i-Construction 2.0” to further improve productivity in the face of major challenges such as a declining and aging working-age population, frequent disasters, and aging infrastructure. “i-Construction 2.0” is an initiative that aims to automate the production process at construction sites by utilizing digital technology. In public construction bidding, DX utilization is eligible for additional technical points, and “Tool Mikke” has gained support not only for the demand for DX promotion due to labor shortages, but also for its advantages at the time of bidding. The new “Tool Mikke II” is a DX service that is easy to use even in the construction industry, which has a more aging population than all industries, and promotes seamless data integration and paperless work, helping to further improve productivity.
