SwitchBot has launched the AI Hub, positioning it as the first local home AI agent to natively support OpenClaw, an open source autonomous AI framework. The core shift here is simple but important. Home AI logic moves from cloud and PC setups to a dedicated, always on edge device that runs inside the home.
The AI Hub combines edge AI computing, vision language models, and smart home control in one unit. It processes camera feeds locally, understands real world events, and turns those insights into automations. With OpenClaw running directly on the hub, users can control devices and query home status through common chat apps like WhatsApp or iMessage, without routing commands through external servers.
Support for OpenClaw rolls out by the end of February, with deeper SwitchBot device control coming in March. The hub also functions as a local NVR using Frigate, supporting up to eight cameras, facial recognition, and expandable local storage. Video summaries and alerts can directly trigger automations, cutting setup time and complexity.

Industry-wise, this reflects a broader move toward privacy-first, edge-based AI in smart homes. Instead of smarter clouds, the focus is shifting to smarter homes that think locally, respond faster, and expose less data by default.
