日本の宇宙機関が地震被害推定プログラムを開発へ

Japan’s space agency signed an agreement with Kumamoto Prefecture to realize the practical application of a program that can estimate the extent of damage to buildings caused by earthquakes using satellite images.

この協定により、宇宙航空研究開発機構は、2016年に熊本県を襲った地震で被災した建物のデータ約20万件の提供を受け、全国導入を目指すプログラムの精度を高めることになります。

JAXAによると、地震前後の衛星画像を比較・解析することで、観測から2〜3時間以内に建物の被害状況を把握することが可能。また、夜間や悪天候時にも利用可能。

JAXAによると、このプログラムは数年以内に使用できるようになる予定です。

“It is my strong desire for the lessons learned by Kumamoto to be utilized for disaster response all over Japan,” Kumamoto Gov. Takashi Kimura said at the signing ceremony on Friday.

JAXAの広報担当者は、このプログラムは最も被害の大きかった地域を表示することで、緊急援助が必要な地域を判断するのに役立つと述べています。

In the case of the magnitude-7.6 quake that struck the Noto Peninsula in central Japan on New Year’s Day in 2024, the government said in a report that it had experienced difficulties determining the extent of damage from the short time it had till sunset.
